Why I Never Discount My Work — And Neither Should You
Every year, as the holiday season rolls around, inboxes and social feeds explode with “limited-time offers,” “doorbuster deals,” and “once-a-year discounts.” And every year, I politely step aside.
You won’t find me slashing prices for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or any other holiday sale. Not because I don’t love a good bargain when I’m shopping for myself, but because when it comes to my craft, my work, and the value I deliver, discounting simply doesn’t make sense.
Here’s why:
1. I Know My Value — And I’ve Earned It
Behind every service I provide are countless hours of learning, refining, and improving. Nights spent studying, mornings spent testing, and years of trial, error, and growth.
Discounting my work would be like saying those hours don’t matter. But they do. Every ounce of effort has shaped the expertise I bring to the table today. When I stand by my pricing, I’m not being stubborn, I’m honoring the journey that got me here.
2. Discounts Devalue the Craft
Here’s the thing: when you discount your work, you unintentionally send the message that it’s worth less. And that’s simply not true.
Your skills, your knowledge, your ability to solve problems. These are not commodities to be marked down like last season’s sweaters. They’re the result of dedication, persistence, and passion.
By holding firm on value, I remind myself (and my clients) that what I offer is not just a transaction. It’s transformation. And transformation is priceless.
3. I Believe in Long-Term Relationships, Not Short-Term Gimmicks
Discounts are designed to create urgency. But urgency fades. What lasts is trust, clarity, and results.
My clients don’t work with me because I’m the cheapest option. They work with me because I help them achieve outcomes that matter. By focusing on value instead of discounts, I build relationships rooted in respect and mutual commitment, not fleeting deals.
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t just about me. It’s about you, too.
If you’re a hardworking professional, you’ve put in the hours. You’ve invested in your craft. You’ve built something worth respecting. So before you roll out a Black Friday special or slash your rates for the holidays, pause. Ask yourself:
Am I honoring the value of my work?
Am I respecting the hours I’ve invested?
Am I building relationships based on trust, or chasing quick wins?
Discounts may feel tempting in the moment, but they can chip away at the very foundation of your value.
Final Thought
I don’t do Black Friday deals because I know my worth. I know the sweat equity behind every service I provide. And I believe that standing firm in value is the most authentic way to serve my clients and myself.
The choice, of course, is yours. But I hope this perspective inspires you to think twice before discounting your hard-earned expertise. Because you’re not just selling a service. You’re sharing your craft, your passion, and your years of dedication. And that deserves to be valued fully, unapologetically, and without markdowns.
