Enjoy the Process: The Real Secret Behind Sustainable Business Growth
Years ago, someone I met through networking asked me a simple question: could I help him build out his CRM and train him to use it. That was it. No grand plan, no five year strategy, just a favor between two people who trusted each other.
That one request became the foundation of my career as a CRM consultant.
Looking back, I don't think that moment changed the direction of my career so much as it revealed a direction that had been quietly there all along. I had always been the person who liked figuring out how things worked and then figuring out how to make them work better for the people using them. The CRM piece was almost incidental. What mattered was the process: sitting with someone, understanding their challenges, and building something custom around their actual goals instead of forcing them into a system.
The Chef and the Consultant
Here is something that might surprise you: I approach my work the same way a therapeutic chef or a functional nutritionist would. The tools are different, obviously, but the process is nearly identical. You do not hand someone a generic meal plan and call it done. You learn their body, their history, their goals, and then you build something specific to them.
That is exactly how I think about CRM work. I am not interested in installing a piece of software and walking away. I am interested in learning a business from the inside, understanding what makes it tick, and then designing something that actually fits.
Why the Process Matters More Than the Repetition
Some people thrive doing the same task the same way, year after year. There is nothing wrong with that. But it is not me. I need a dynamic environment, one where I am building custom CRM systems, strategizing with clients, and finding relationship driven ways to help their businesses grow. Every client is different, every challenge is different, and that variety is exactly what keeps the work meaningful.
What I have come to love most is working with relationship driven businesses and helping them turn tech chaos into a calm, organized, streamlined system. When the CRM finally works the way it should, something interesting happens: it gives people their time back. And that time is what allows a business owner to show up as the most human, most memorable version of themselves, which is ultimately what sets them apart from everyone else doing similar work.
Technology, used well, does not replace human connection. It creates the space for more of it. That is the differentiator I encourage every business to take seriously.
Enjoying the Process, Not Just the Outcome
If there is one lesson worth sharing, it is this: enjoy the process of the work, not just the results. When you genuinely enjoy the process, it stops feeling like work. You get rewarded simply for finding the problem solving fun.
That is how I feel about untangling tech messes. Every day, I get to solve problems and strategize on the systems that, when built around real relationships, create the conditions for opportunity and growth. That is not a burden. It is the part of the job I look forward to most.
